Beschreibung:

The Silent Night Museum in Oberndorf near Salzburg tells the story of the Christmas carol Silent Night, Holy Night, which was written in Oberndorf. The museum is located right next to the Silent Night Chapel, which stands on the site of the former parish church. In this church the song was performed for the first time on December 24, 1818.

The main exhibition deals with the origin of the song and the life of its creators Franz Xaver Gruber and Joseh Mohr.

Other exhibitions show the history of Oberndorf and the neighboring town of Laufen. They deal in particular with salt shipping on the Salzach and the life of the philosopher, economist and winner of the Alternative Nobel Prize Leopold Kohr, who was born in Oberndorf.
